Hanuman Chalisa becomes first Indian video to cross 5 billion views on YouTube

Mumbai, Nov 28: The iconic T-Series “Hanuman Chalisa,” featuring Gulshan Kumar and sung by Hariharan, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian video to surpass 5 billion views on YouTube.

Despite being released in the 1990s, the devotional hymn continues to dominate digital platforms and has now entered YouTube’s Top 10 most-watched videos globally, outperforming major Bollywood, Punjabi, and regional hits.

T-Series Managing Director Bhushan Kumar expressed gratitude, noting that the success reflects the “unwavering devotion of millions” and the spiritual vision of Gulshan Kumar, who aimed to take devotional music to every household.

The next closest Indian videos—Punjabi track Lehanga (1.8B views), Haryanvi song 52 Gaj Ka Daman, and Tamil hit Rowdy Baby (1.7B views each)—remain far behind. Internationally, global chart-toppers like Baby Shark Dance and Despacito continue to lead the list.
