Guwali Yatra rituals to be conducted at Shree Jagannath Temple today

Puri, June 26: The sacred ‘Guwali Yatra’ rituals will be conducted at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri today on the auspicious occasion of ‘Jyestha Shukla Dwadashi (Champaka Dwadashi)’.

The rituals follow the divine wedding ceremony of the representative deities, ‘Madan Mohan’ and ‘Rukmini’, which was solemnised late on Thursday night.

As per temple tradition, after the ‘Madhyahna Dhupa’ (midday offering), the ceremonial idols of the divine couple will be taken out for the Guwali Yatra. The rituals will begin with ‘Akshata Bandapana’ performed by the Bhitarchha Mahapatra inside the temple, followed by the offering of Mahaprasad.

The newlywed divine couple will then be taken to the ‘Raj Nahar’ inside the royal palace, where the ‘Gajapati Maharaja’ will perform the customary Bandapana ritual. Thereafter, the deities will be seated together in a single palanquin and taken in a ceremonial procession through the ‘Singhadwara’ to the ‘Jameswar Temple’, where the traditional ‘Panchugrasa Niti’ will be performed.

Following the completion of the rituals, the divine couple will return to the Shree Jagannath Temple, marking the conclusion of the Guwali Yatra.
