Former Champua block clerk convicted in Odisha Vigilance corruption case

Kendujhar, June 30: Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of former Development Clerk-cum-Store In-charge of Champua Block in Kendujhar district in a corruption case involving the misappropriation of government funds.

Ganeswar Giri, a retired Development Clerk-cum-Store In-charge of Champua Block, was convicted today by the Special Vigilance Judge, Kendujhar. He was found guilty under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Odisha Vigilance, Giri misappropriated government funds of Champua Block during the period from 2007-08 to 2010-11 by manipulating the block's cement stock register. Following the trial, the court sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Giri's pension in accordance with the applicable rules governing retired government employees convicted in corruption cases.
