Kanker, Ap 13: In a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxals in the forests under Chhote Betia police station, Rupi, a female Maoist area commander with a bounty of ₹5 lakh, was killed. The police recovered her body and a weapon from the encounter site.
The encounter took place on Monday morning, just 12 days after the state government declared Chhattisgarh free from armed Maoist influence. According to senior police officials, the exchange of fire occurred during a search operation in the dense forests of Chhote Betia.
Security personnel had been conducting a regular anti-Naxal campaign when Naxals lying in ambush attacked them. The forces retaliated, forcing the Maoists to retreat.
The deceased was identified as Rupi, a key member of the Maoists’ Pratappur area committee. She had a bounty of ₹5 lakh on her head.
SP Nikhil Rakhecha stated that security forces continue to monitor the area and are conducting extensive search operations. Following reports of Maoist activity in the region, security has been further strengthened.
