Exam date clash leaves Odisha aspirants in a fix; demand rescheduling of OTET & OSSSC tests

Bhubaneswar, June 23: Thousands of job aspirants in Odisha are facing uncertainty after two major examinations — the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) and recruitment examinations conducted by the Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission — have been scheduled on the same day, June 28.

Candidates preparing for both examinations have expressed concern, stating that the overlapping schedules will force them to choose one exam over the other, potentially affecting their career prospects.

According to the schedule, OTET Paper-I will be conducted from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, while Paper-II will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. On the same day, OSSSC is slated to conduct written examinations for several posts, including Revenue Inspector (RI), Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI), ICDS Supervisor, Amin, and Statistical Field Surveyor (SFS).

Aspirants have argued that it will be practically impossible to appear for both examinations and have urged authorities to immediately revise the schedule to avoid depriving candidates of opportunities.

The scheduling conflict arose after both examinations were postponed from their original dates. OSSSC had initially planned to hold its examinations on June 20 but shifted them to June 28 due to administrative reasons linked to the NEET examination held on June 21. Similarly, OTET, which was originally scheduled for June 21, was also rescheduled to June 28, resulting in the clash.

Candidates have voiced frustration over repeated postponements of the RI and Amin recruitment examinations over the past two years, saying the uncertainty has already affected their preparation and career planning.

Many aspirants have appealed to the state government, OSSSC, and the Board of Secondary Education Odisha to coordinate and reschedule one of the examinations in the interest of students and job seekers.

As of now, neither OSSSC nor BSE Odisha has issued an official statement regarding the matter. Aspirants remain hopeful that authorities will intervene and resolve the issue before the examination date.
