COVID spikes again: 46-year-old man dies after infection confirmed in Andhra Pradesh

Kadapa, Jul 10: A fresh Covid-19 fatality has raised concerns over a possible resurgence of the virus, with a 46-year-old man succumbing to the infection in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district after his condition failed to improve despite intensive treatment.

According to Kadapa District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Ravi Babu, the deceased, a resident of Masapeta, was admitted to a local hospital with severe breathlessness and persistent cough. He was also reported to have a history of alcohol addiction.

Doctors initially treated him with high-dose antibiotics, suspecting a severe bacterial lung infection. However, his health continued to deteriorate over the next four days. A chest X-ray revealed extensive damage to both lungs, leading to pneumonia, prompting doctors to investigate the possibility of a COVID-19 infection.

A subsequent CT scan confirmed that the patient had contracted COVID-19. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to the illness.

Following the confirmation, health authorities initiated containment measures, including sanitisation of the affected area and contact tracing of the deceased's primary and secondary contacts to prevent further spread of the virus.

The latest fatality comes amid renewed concerns over sporadic COVID-19 cases being reported from different parts of the country, prompting health officials to remain vigilant and closely monitor the situation.
