Puri, Jul 10: Preparations for the ceremonial adornment of the deities of the Shree Jagannath Temple are in full swing, with skilled tailors meticulously crafting the traditional Chaka Asanas and Apsaras, essential ritual accessories used at the deities' resting and ceremonial seating places.
The circular Chaka Asanas serve as the sacred seats on which the deities are placed during rituals, while the Apsaras are decorative backrests positioned behind the heads and bodies of the deities. A total of four Chaka Asanas and three Apsaras are being prepared for the Chaturdha Murti-Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshan. However, Lord Sudarshan does not have an Apsara as part of the traditional ritual arrangement.
In addition, a similar ceremonial cushion has also been prepared for Madanmohan, the representative deity used during various temple rituals.
The Chaka Asanas and Apsaras are being stitched using vibrant yellow, blue, and red fabrics, reflecting the traditional colours associated with the Jagannath culture. Among them, the Apsara for Lord Jagannath is the largest in size.
The sacred accessories are being prepared under the supervision of chief tailor servitor Prakash Mohapatra, who is overseeing the work in accordance with the age-old traditions of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
