Koraput, June 5: A major road accident was narrowly averted in Koraput town after an Eicher truck carrying polythene materials suffered a sudden brake failure and went out of control on the city entry road.
The incident occurred near the HP Gas Agency on National Highway-26. According to police sources, the speeding truck veered off course after the brakes failed and crashed into more than eight motorcycles parked along the roadside.
The sudden mishap triggered panic among local residents and commuters. Several people who were present near the accident site sustained minor injuries while managing to escape a potentially devastating collision.
On receiving information, personnel from the Town Police Station and the Fire Services Department rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The damaged motorcycles were cleared from the road, and traffic movement was restored.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident. Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are examining the mechanical condition of the vehicle.
