Bhubaneswar, June 10: Commuters travelling along the congested Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan corridor are set to get major relief as the long-awaited parallel road project is nearing completion. The new route is expected to significantly reduce travel time and help motorists avoid heavy traffic congestion.
According to officials, a major portion of the project has already been completed, with the stretch from Ekamra Kanan to OERC now ready for use. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to inaugurate the road on June 12.
Once opened, commuters will be able to travel from CRP Square to Infosity in around 15 minutes without encountering major traffic bottlenecks. The new road will serve as an alternative route to the busy Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan stretch.
Motorists travelling from CRP Square will be able to pass through Ekamra Kanan, Hatiashuni, Xavier Square, NALCO Square, Sailashree Vihar, Niladri Vihar and reach the Infosity Sai Temple area. Vehicles travelling in the opposite direction will also be able to use the corridor to reach Jaydev Vihar, CRP Square and Nuapalli.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has completed blacktopping, service roads, drainage systems and divider construction along both sides of the main road between Ekamra Kanan Park and Hatiashuni. New streetlights have been installed along the median and service roads, while landscaping work, including plantation of flowering plants on the divider, is currently underway.
Beautification efforts are also in progress, with painting work being carried out along the roadside. Officials are working round the clock to complete the remaining minor works before the inauguration.
Special attention is being given to the newly developed rotary junction and fountain area, where a high-mast lighting system has already been installed. The remaining work is expected to be completed within the next few days.
The 200-foot-wide road project was originally conceived in 2016 to provide an alternative traffic corridor for the rapidly expanding city. While portions of the road from Hatiashuni to OERC and from Patharagadia to IMA had been completed earlier, the project remained stalled for years due to difficulties in clearing encroachments at Salia Sahi and Chunukoli village.
