Bhubaneswar, May 9: While the Balianta mob lynching case, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar City has created a row over the law & order situation of the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who was out station then, ordered Crime Branch probe into it.
The directive was issued following a high-level review meeting held at the Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The gruesome incident that exceeded extreme inhumanity prompted the Odisha Police to take scores of accused into custody. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister yet necessitated the need for a fair, transparent and proper investigation by the Crime Branch into the matter.
Apart from it, Majhi also instructed officials to ensure the sternest and exemplary action against all those found guilty in the mob killing.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take all necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. Stressing the importance of maintaining law & order in the state he asked the police administration to remain vigilant and strengthen preventive measures against mob violence and unlawful activities.
Worth mentioning, a GRP Constable identified as Soumya Ranjan Swain was killed by an enraged mob near the Balianta village under the Balianta Police limit on 7th May.
The barbaric scene that set internet on fire, wreaked a massive outrage as the victim was seen carried hung on a piece of bamboo jointly tied to his legs, following thrashing him black & blue in the scorching sun.
