Bhubaneswar, Jan 13:With the alleged security breach during Odisha CM’s visit to Utkal University on Monday, the Commissionerate Police has opened up on the matter.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, it was not a security breach, was an ardent youth’s endeavor to put forth his grievance directly before the CM. However, he was checked & caught hold enroute by the security personnel as he began rushing towards the CM.
Reviewing the situation that resulted in massive criticism for the security forces and the Commissionerate Police following the yesterday’s incident, Meena said the offender was taken to custody soon after he tried to come near the CM after breaking the cordon.
Responding to media persons Meena said, the offender, identified as Bijay Kumar Mallik who hails from the Bhandaripokhari area in Bhadrak was nabbed while he tried to break the security cordon in the varsity. He was detained in the Sahidnagar PS for further investigation. During, interrogation, it was revealed that the youth was an alumnus of the Varsity who was associated with a political party for years. Now, he is reportedly preparing for a new career. He was trying to barge into the security cordon to put forth his grievance regarding employment, putting himself up before the CM.
The paper, the youth had held in his hand, was seized. It was his sincere submission to the CM, regarding the SI recruitment drive that has been put on hold, the DCP added.
Worth mentioning, a scuffle between a youth and security forces took place on the Utkal University Campus on Monday after the unidentified person broke the police cordon and rushed towards Odisha CM Mohan Majhi.
Swiftly acting on it, the police seized the offender in time before he approached the CM and detained him, to ascertain his modus operandi.
