BCCI extends recovery time for injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will officially skip the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka scheduled for this August. Medical experts at the BCCI recommended extra recovery time for his troublesome left knee. Selectors have not named a replacement player for the squad yet. Fast bowlers frequently face knee and back issues due to the high physical demands of continuous international cricket schedules.
Bumrah last bowled on July 16 during the second ODI match against England in Cardiff. He sat out the final match at Lord's after sustaining an impact injury while fielding. Following that series, medical staff gave him an injection as part of a long-term fitness strategy. He travelled to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru this week for fitness assessments. Experts warned that rushing his return could worsen the knee issue and keep him out much longer. His exact injury severity remains completely unknown right now. He previously visited the Bengaluru facility in late March before playing 13 IPL games, though he missed Mumbai Indians' final season fixture.
Growing injury list for Indian squad
Multiple players are currently dealing with serious fitness problems alongside Bumrah. Harshit Rana has a hamstring issue, and Nitish Kumar Reddy suffers from a quadriceps injury. Washington Sundar will definitely miss the first Test with a hamstring problem. Akash Deep is still recovering from back stress reactions.
Sri Lanka hosts the first match at Galle International Stadium starting on August 15. The Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo will host the second game beginning on August 23. Both games will begin at 10:00 AM IST. These matches are crucial parts of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Captain Shubman Gill leads a team currently sitting fifth in the global standings. India holds a Points Percentage of 48.150 after securing four wins and four losses across nine total matches.
