Bhubaneswar, Jul 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Odisha on July 4 has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions and widespread heavy rainfall across the state.

Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit said the visit was called off in view of the deteriorating weather caused by the active monsoon. Shah was slated to arrive at Jharsuguda Airport before proceeding to Bargarh district for a series of official engagements.

During the visit, the Union Home Minister was scheduled to inaugurate Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (BPCL) Rs 1,775-crore second-generation (2G) ethanol plant in Bargarh district. However, the inauguration and all other scheduled programmes have been cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Pradeep Purohit said the events will be rescheduled once weather conditions improve.

The cancellation comes as several districts across Odisha continue to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of an active monsoon system, disrupting normal life in many areas.
