28 AIADMK MLAs Shifted to Puducherry Amid Tamil Nadu Government Formation Standoff

Puducherry, May 7:Twenty-eight AIADMK MLAs have reportedly been relocated to a private resort in Poorankuppam, Puducherry, as political tensions escalate over the formation of the Tamil Nadu government. Sources suggest that these MLAs are aligned with senior AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam, fueling speculation about potential shifts in party loyalties.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has already secured the support of five Congress MLAs but still needs backing from six more legislators to achieve a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Earlier, during a second round of discussions in Chennai on Thursday, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar asked Vijay to demonstrate majority numbers and submit a detailed list of MLAs supporting TVK’s claim to form the government.

According to sources, the Governor sought clarity on the “magic number” required for government formation, requesting specific information on legislators supporting TVK. Meanwhile, political negotiations are reportedly ongoing, with senior AIADMK leaders, including former Minister and TVK candidate KA Sengottaiyan, involved in discussions over potential support to TVK.

There are indications of a possible power-sharing arrangement, under which CV Shanmugam could be offered the position of Deputy Chief Minister along with key ministerial portfolios. The relocation of all 28 MLAs to the Puducherry resort has intensified speculation, particularly as AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has reportedly not agreed to extend support to TVK.

Sources further claim that party leaders like CV Shanmugam and OS Manian favor supporting TVK in exchange for significant roles in the prospective government. Meanwhile, senior party figures have suggested that TVK may explore legal avenues by approaching the Supreme Court or the High Court regarding the government formation process, with some even considering the possibility of re-elections.
