Balasore, June 18: The district administration has imposed an indefinite curfew in the entire Balasore Municipality area following a group clash yesterday.
Additionally, internet services have been suspended in some sensitive areas to prevent further incidents. Shops, schools, and other institutions have been closed to restore peace in the region.
The police have urged people to stay indoors. The clash erupted when some locals noticed water in a drain near the Pir turning red. The news quickly spread, leading to a protest and road blockade on the Chandipur-Balasore main road.
The situation escalated into a violent clash when another community opposed the demonstration, resulting in stone-pelting between the groups. Police intervened and managed to bring the situation under control, but tension remained high in the area.
Reports indicate that four to five people, including police personnel, were injured, and 15 to 20 vehicles were completely damaged in the clash.
The Balasore district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 from Pir Bazar to Patrapada to prevent further escalation of tensions following the group clash near Bhujakhia Pir in Balasore town.
