Honour Marks New Era in Bilateral Relations
In a significant diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana', the nation's prestigious national honour. The award was presented by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during PM Modi's historic state visit to the West African country—the first by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades.
The honour recognizes what was described as PM Modi's distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership. In his acceptance, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude, stating that he accepted the award on behalf of the 140 crore people of India. He dedicated the honour to the nation's youth and the enduring friendship between India and Ghana.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the award as a symbol of the close and growing relationship between the two democracies. During the visit, both leaders held wide-ranging discussions and agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive partnership.
PM Modi remarked that the honour "deepens the friendship between India and Ghana" and places a "new responsibility" on him to continue enhancing ties. He expressed confidence that his landmark visit would add fresh momentum to the partnership, which is guided by shared democratic values.
