Bhubaneswar: The national weather forecaster IMD has issued orange alert for Odisha on the Holi Day. the State may record severe heat wave conditions at some places.
The day time maximum temperature may cross the 40 deg C on March 15 in as many as 14 districts. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will be sizzling at around 40 deg C on the day of festival of colours.
As per the IMD forecast, the Orange alert for Odisha will continue for next 48 hours, means up to March 17.
The national weather forecaster has urged the denizens and administration of the State for taking mitigating actions to prevent heat related illness, which seems very likely from March 15 to March 17.
The IMD model forecast shows the heat wave in Odisha staying put till March 20.
HEAT WAVE SHOW TILL MAR 20
According to the model forecast of IMD, following districts in Odisha will record heat wave till March 20. The districts are:
- MARCH 18
- Some places in Sundargarh/Deogarh/Sambalpur may record 42 deg C
- Districts like the following may record 40deg C temperature
- Balangir
- Bargarh
- Subarnapur
- Boudh
- Jharsuguda
- Angul
- Places in northwest Kandhmal
- MARCH 19
- Following districts will record 40 deg C
- Balangir
- Bargarh
- Subarnapur
- Boudh
- Jharsuguda
- Angul
- Places in northwest Kandhmal
- Sundargarh
- Sambalpur
- MARCH 20
- 41 deg C in following district
- Some places in Boudh/Subarnapur
- 40 Deg C in the following districts
- Balangir
- Bargarh
- Subarnapur
- Boudh

HEAT WAVE IN BHUBANESWAR, CUTTACK
A glance at the model forecast of IMD shows that the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will be recording over 38/39 deg C max temperature till March 18.
From March 19 onwards, with no inflow of westerly/NW winds to the State and inflow of easterlies at the lower troposphere, the day time max temperature will drop to around 36/37 deg C.
Under easterlies influence, the twin cities and other coastal areas are predicted to record some rainfall on March 21 and onwards.
HEAT WAVE WILL RETURN?
A glance at the model forecasts of NCEP GFS, IMD shows that heat wave conditions will ease over Odisha after March 20. Many places may record rains therafter.
However, as per GFS model prediction, heat wave conditions may return to western Odisha by around March 29/30.
But coastal areas are unlikely to record heat wave conditions after March 18.
