Bhubaneswar, August 8:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha over the next five days following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.

According to the IMD's evening weather bulletin, the low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal at around 8.30 am on August 8. The weather system is expected to influence atmospheric conditions over Odisha, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts in the coming days.

The weather office has warned that isolated places in parts of northern and western Odisha could receive extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of the system. Several other areas of the state are also likely to experience heavy rainfall during this period.

The IMD said the developing weather system could lead to an increase in rainfall activity across Odisha, with the possibility of intense spells at isolated locations. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert, particularly in districts that are prone to waterlogging, flooding and landslides during periods of heavy rain.

The forecast comes at a time when monsoon activity is already active over the state. The formation of the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to further strengthen rainfall over Odisha and adjoining regions.

The IMD is closely monitoring the movement and intensification of the system and is expected to issue further updates as the weather system evolves.

Authorities and local administrations have been advised to remain prepared for possible heavy rainfall-related situations, while people in areas likely to receive intense rain have been urged to follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
