Chhatrapur, Sept 18: In a major raid ahead of the festive season, the Chhatrapur police, along with a magistrate, seized a large cache of illegal firecrackers worth over ₹10 lakh from Sundarpur village under Chhatrapur police limits.
The raid was conducted at three houses belonging to Papun Patra in Tower Sahi, Sundarpur. The joint operation included Chhatrapur SDPO Chandan Kumar Ghadei, IIC Sabyasachi Malla, Additional Tehsildar and acting magistrate N. Ravi Pradhan, and a team of police personnel.
Officials said the seized crackers had been stored without proper licenses and in violation of safety norms. One youth has been detained in connection with the case, according to SDPO Ghadei.
Police are now investigating the source of the firecrackers and suspect a larger supply network. More such raids are expected in the coming days as part of the crackdown on illegal firecracker storage and sale.
