Bhubaneswar, May 10: A PhD scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar died after reportedly falling from the sixth floor of a hostel building on the institute’s campus.

The deceased, identified as Tanikonda Nishant Kumar, was a research scholar in the Electrical Engineering department and belonged to Andhra Pradesh.

As per reports, campus security personnel found Nishant in a critically injured condition following the fall and rushed him to the hospital located within the campus premises.

Later, on doctors’ advice, he was shifted by ambulance to a private hospital for advanced treatment. However, doctors there declared him dead.

After receiving information about the incident, Jatni Police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. The exact circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation, said police.
