Bhubaneswar hosts IIMCAA meet to honour public service excellence.
Bhubaneswar witnessed a significant gathering of media and communication experts as the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) Odisha Chapter held its annual meet. Members of the fraternity convened to celebrate professional synergy and recognize outstanding societal contributions. This year, the IIMCAA Award for Public Service went to Ankita Sahoo, an alumna from the 2012-13 Odia Journalism batch. Known widely as the "Pad Woman of Odisha," Sahoo has dedicated over a decade to improving menstrual hygiene and awareness across the state.
Recognizing Excellence and Silver Jubilees
Manaswini Mishra and Biswajit Sahoo also received honors as silver jubilee students, marking twenty-five years of their professional journey. Regional Director of IIMC Dhenkanal, Anand Pradhan, emphasized that the true power of the institute resides in its people and their ability to uphold core values across various sectors. Odisha holds a unique position in this network, currently serving as the second-largest hub for IIMC graduates in India, trailing only behind the national capital region.
Strengthening Media Networks
Chapter President Sandeep Kumar Sethi highlighted the role of these meets in fostering mentorship and collective growth. Distinguished attendees included Central Committee General Secretary Atul Gupta and veteran journalist Kasturi Ray, alongside numerous PR professionals and reporters. These interactions are vital for the local media landscape, as Odisha's communication sector has expanded rapidly with the rise of digital portals and specialized public relations firms.
Future of Communication in Odisha
Discussions during the event shifted toward emerging trends in media and how alumni can drive meaningful change. The Odisha Chapter remains committed to building a vibrant community that supports both veteran practitioners and fresh graduates. By integrating professional excellence with social responsibility, the IIMC family continues to influence governance, academia, and journalism throughout the region.
