Sambalpur, Aug 13: IIM Sambalpur hosted a Harvard Business Impact “Teaching with Cases” seminar at its campus. The two-day workshop beginning on August 13, conducted in collaboration with Harvard Business Publishing Education, brought together IIM Sambalpur faculty members and PhD Scholars for intensive training in the globally acclaimed Harvard case teaching method.
The two-day seminar provided participants with a hands-on experience with the Harvard case teaching method through interactive discussions, real case studies, and group activities. The sessions explored the opportunities and challenges of case-based teaching, techniques of framing appropriate questions, and strategies for conducting effective classroom discussions.
A key highlight was exploring how Generative AI can support teaching preparation, from creating discussion plans and generating alternative case perspective to provide intelligent analytics for accessing learning outcomes. Faculty members also acquired knowledge of how AI tools can enhance teaching effectiveness, from supporting decision making to using intelligent analytics for better learning outcomes. The workshop encouraged active participation, open exchange of ideas, and practical exercises, leading the participants to rethink how to teach, learn, and lead in today’s changing world.
The 2-day seminar was conducted by Prof. V.G. Narayanan, Thomas D. Casserly, Jr. Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, and Senior Associate Dean, Executive Education, Harvard Business School Online. Other team members were Dviwesh Mehta, Director- South Asia and Middle East, Higher Education; Harvard Business Publishing; Rahul Roy, Strategic Relationship Manager, Harvard Business Publishing; and Priyamvada Saraswat, Senior Research & Sales Support Specialist, Harvard Business Impact Enterprise.
While welcoming the guests and faculty members at the inaugural ceremony,Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur said, “We are excited to host this seminar with Harvard Business Publishing Education, giving our faculty and scholars a chance to learn the formal method of case-based teaching from some of the best in the world. In today’s era, AI is the equalizer, and it also integrates ideas as well. We all are aware of the disruption of AI. As a new IIM, we want to think differently, teach differently, and prepare our students to lead in this changing world.”
Prof. V.G. Narayanan also addressed the MBA students, staff, and faculty members of IIM Sambalpur on “preparing for a career in business in an AI world”.
The seminar concluded with a valedictory session, certificate distribution, and group photograph, marking a successful exchange of ideas and techniques between IIM Sambalpur and Harvard Business Publishing Education.
