Security Forces Bust Militant Hideout, in Poonch District

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully located and dismantled a militant hideout in the border district of Poonch as report came in on Monday, May 5th, from official sources. The operation, conducted based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the recovery of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other materials.

The hideout was discovered during a joint search operation carried out by the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police within the forest area of Surankote. Officials reported the seizure of five IEDs, varying in weight from approximately 0.5 kg to 5 kg. These devices were found concealed in steel buckets and tiffin boxes. Adhering to safety protocols, all recovered IEDs were subsequently destroyed on-site through controlled explosions.

In addition to the explosives, the search team recovered other significant items from the location. These included two wireless communication sets, five packets identified as containing urea, a small gas cylinder, a pair of binoculars, blankets, woolen caps, trousers, and various utensils.

This discovery comes amidst heightened security operations across Jammu and Kashmir following the major terrorist attack in Pahalgam last month, which resulted in multiple fatalities. Officials confirmed that search operations to locate militants suspected of involvement in recent attacks, including potential infiltrators, are actively continuing in the region.

The successful operation in Poonch highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to neutralize potential threats in Jammu and Kashmir. The recovery and safe destruction of multiple IEDs represent a significant prevention of potential harm, as vigilance remains high across the Union Territory.
