Neha Bora move Delhi High Court challenging peace bond notice

New Delhi, Oct 19: Neha Bora, president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), has moved the Delhi High Court challenging a police notice that asks her to submit a ₹10,000 personal bond along with a surety, as a guarantee of keeping the peace while an inquiry is underway.

Bora's legal team said the petition has been filed. The team added that they are pressing for an early hearing before the court's vacation bench.

The move follows her detention by Delhi Police on October 16, ahead of the "Lehra Do Tiranga" march planned at Connaught Place (Rajiv Chowk).

Police said Bora was picked up on Friday evening as she headed to join the march. She was released in the early hours of Saturday once formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act were completed.

The march took place against the backdrop of demonstrations over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, with protesters also demanding accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several demonstrators were detained by police before the protest got underway.

The episode has fueled a broader debate over preventive action against organisers and participants of protests. Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, was likewise detained before the march.

He was released after appearing before a Special Executive Magistrate and executing a peace bond.

According to Delhi Police, on Friday, both Bora and Dipke were detained on Friday evening under preventive provisions following the October 16 protest. Subsequently, action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was taken against Dipke.
