Cuttack, Oct 31: The historic Baliyatra is set to witness a unique addition this year- a dedicated Dahibara Market in the lower ground area, to be opened for the first time in the fair’s history. The initiative is being launched in memory of the late Raghunath Sasmal, one of Cuttack’s most renowned Dahibara vendors.

The new market will feature stalls by four popular Dahibara sellers from across Cuttack- Babula Dahibara from Krushak Bazaar, Raghu Dahibara from Bidanasi, Trinath Dahibara from Kanika Chhak, and Sant Dahibara from Chandinichowk.

Visitors from across Odisha and beyond will now be able to relish the authentic taste of Cuttack’s signature Dahibara while exploring the iconic Baliyatra fair. Traditionally, food stalls including Dahibara vendors have been set up in the upper ground area, but this year marks a special step by the administration.

In response to growing calls for GI tag recognition for Cuttack Dahibara, the authorities have taken this innovative initiative to promote and celebrate the city’s beloved street food. The Dahibara Market will be located in front of the Ormas Pavilion.

“This exclusive section will surely delight food lovers and highlight Cuttack’s culinary heritage,” said Kedarnath Sasmal, secretary of the Dahibara Association.
