Gajapati, Ap 14: Odisha’s second-highest peak and ancient pilgrimage site, Mahendragiri, is set to witness a historic event as a grand Kumbh Mela will be held there for the first time during the rare ‘Yoda Jyeshtha’ period, marking two full moons in the Jyeshtha month, after 18 years.
In a preparatory meeting at Mahendragiri Ashram, Commerce, Transport, Mines, and Steel Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jana participated in discussions on organizing the large-scale spiritual event. Local residents and officials also deliberated on ongoing development works and coordinated to ensure smooth execution.
Authorities emphasized arrangements for drinking water, lighting, sanitation, security, and crowd management, forming a five-member core committee to oversee logistics. Volunteers have been assigned strategies to assist pilgrims with holy baths and darshan in a safe and orderly manner.
The event, combining Mahendragiri’s natural beauty with its spiritual significance, is expected to create a new chapter for the region, drawing attention to Gajapati district’s tourism and cultural heritage.
The preparatory meeting included prominent leaders, local panchayat representatives, intellectuals, and community figures, all contributing suggestions to ensure the event’s success. With the Kumbh Mela approaching, the entire region is already experiencing a heightened spiritual atmosphere and anticipation among devotees.
