Himalayan Buddhists celebrate 2569th Buddha Jayanti, Call for Global Peace

Shimla, May 12: Buddhist communities from Himachal Pradesh and the Tibetan exile diaspora gathered in Shimla to mark the 2569th Buddha Jayanti, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha.

Organised by the Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti Bauddh Sewa Sangh and Indo-Tibet Friendship Society, the event echoed strong calls for peace amid global unrest.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted Buddhism’s deep roots in Indian culture and its shared values of compassion and non-violence.

Buddhist leaders, including V.S. Negi and Lopon Jigme Gyalpo, stressed the urgent need to embrace Lord Buddha's teachings in today’s conflict-ridden world. The celebration featured prayers, cultural performances, and messages of unity, compassion, and spiritual reflection.( With Agency Input)
