Keonjhar, August 25: Continuous heavy rainfall has led to the collapse of two houses in Jena Sahi, Ward No. 13 of Anandapur Municipality in Keonjhar district, leaving two families homeless and in distress.
In one incident, a mud wall of a house suddenly gave way while five members of Dillip Jena’s family were asleep inside. Fortunately, the family narrowly escaped what could have been a major tragedy. However, with their home reduced to rubble, the family is now struggling to find shelter.
A similar incident occurred last night when the house of Jayadev Jena, a resident of the same locality, also collapsed due to the relentless downpour.
The affected families have alleged that, despite submitting repeated applications, they have yet to receive assistance or housing under the government’s housing scheme. They expressed deep concern over the lack of support and delay in getting permanent shelter.
Following reports of the incident, the local councilor visited the victims and assured them of immediate support. He coordinated with the local Tehsildar to provide emergency relief, including tarpaulin sheets. Authorities have also promised that both families will be given priority for housing assistance under the government scheme at the earliest.
