Heavy rainfall to lash several districts of Odisha during next four days

Bhubaneswar, August 17: Several parts of Odisha are expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next four days due to formation of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Friday.
The low pressure area persists over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is likely to move north-northwestwards during the next two days and intensify into a well-marked low pressure area over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, said the regional Met office.
Thereafter, the system is expected to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and adjoining areas in the subsequent three days, it said.
“The system will likely have impact over Odisha for four days and some parts, especially northern and western districts, are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the period,” said Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre director Manorama Mohanty.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal on Saturday. Similarly, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occurat one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati.
The IMD has warned fFlash flood/water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field, mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
