Bhubaneswar, July 7: A low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and its adjoining regions on Sunday, leading to the likelihood of widespread rainfall across Odisha in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several districts, forecasting intense weather conditions.
Under the influence of the system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Monday in Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Nuapada districts. The IMD has placed these areas under an Orange Warning, indicating a heightened risk of severe weather and urging residents to stay alert.
Meanwhile, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal are likely to witness moderate to heavy showers, with a Yellow Warning in place. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging between 30–40 km/h are also anticipated.
The IMD's forecast extends over the next several days:
July 8: Heavy rainfall is likely in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.
July 9: Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh may receive heavy showers; a Yellow Warning has been issued.
July 10: Rain is expected in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
July 11: Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj will likely continue to experience rainfall.
The IMD advises citizens and local authorities to remain vigilant, especially in areas under Orange Warning, due to the risk of waterlogging, localized flooding, and possible disruption of daily activities.
