Bhubaneswar, July 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that heavy rainfall is likely to lash several districts of Odisha due to the formation of two low-pressure areas.
According to the Met Department, two low-pressure areas have formed in the region, one over the north Bay of Bengal near Bangladesh, West Bengal, and north Odisha coast, and another over northwest Madhya Pradesh and nearby areas.
Under their influence, several districts in Odisha are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
The weather department has issued an orange warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh districts on Monday, where very heavy rainfall is likely.
The IMD has also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Balangir, and Kandhamal districts.
Coastal and southern Odisha may experience thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rain.
On July 15, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur. Several other districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj could also witness rainfall with lightning.
On July 16, rainfall is expected to intensify in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur. The trend may continue in some areas on July 17, 18, and 19.
Between July 13 and 19, scattered rainfall is likely across different parts of the state.
Rainfall recorded on Sunday included 41 mm in Paradip, 24.4 mm in Sonepur, 15.3 mm in both Titilagarh and Balasore, and 8 mm in Bhadrak.
