Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwest and intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours.
As per reports, the weather system over the west-central and nearby northwest Bay of Bengal, along with the seas near the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, became stronger and more noticeable by Sunday afternoon.

The IMD has issued a red alert for three districts in south Odisha: Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangapur. These areas are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday, with some places possibly seeing extremely heavy rainfall. Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts are also expected to get heavy rainfall.
The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha. Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, and Nuapada are also expected to get heavy rain. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also possible in many parts of Odisha.
