Odapur, Aug 26: Panic spread through Odapur village in the Dasamantapur block of Koraput district after reports of five sudden deaths sparked fears of a mysterious illness. However, health authorities have confirmed that the deaths were due to unrelated and known medical conditions, dismissing concerns of a disease outbreak.
According to officials, initial speculation suggested the possibility of an unknown or contagious disease, creating alarm among local residents. A thorough medical investigation, however, revealed that the deaths were not linked to any epidemic.
Of the five deceased, two individuals reportedly died due to food poisoning, one from kidney-related complications, and another from internal stomach injuries. The fifth death was also determined to be from a non-communicable cause.
Dispelling rumours of a spreading illness, the Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) stated that there is no evidence of a disease outbreak or any link between the cases. “Each case was due to an independent and identifiable cause,” he said.
Local MLA visited the village to take stock of the situation and assured residents that there is no risk from any unknown illness. The district administration continues to monitor the health status of villagers to ensure public safety.
