Puri, Aug 29: Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling took part in the traditional Nuakhai festival celebrations held in Puri, honoring the age-old agricultural tradition of Odisha. The event, celebrated with great enthusiasm, marks the first harvest of the season and is an important cultural occasion for the farming community.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mahaling expressed the government's commitment to preserving and promoting this rich agricultural tradition, highlighting that the state government has been focusing on strengthening the agricultural sector. He added that the Chief Minister’s Kisan Yojana is a testament to the government’s dedication to farmers, providing financial support to enhance their livelihoods.
The Nuakhai festival in Puri was organized in multiple phases, starting with the Lagnadharya, followed by the traditional Nuakhai meal, and concluding with a vibrant celebration of the festival through various cultural activities. These included folk dances, music, and community interactions, which brought together people from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Mahaling, after celebrating with his family, later joined the Nuakhai celebrations in the Saragad village under the Loisingha Election Mandal. He extended his best wishes to the local community, emphasizing that the government is fully committed to the welfare of all citizens, particularly the people of Western Odisha.
The Health Minister also acknowledged that this great tradition of Nuakhai is not confined to Odisha alone but has spread across the country and even to foreign shores, where Odia communities continue to uphold the customs. He wished everyone success and prosperity as they celebrated this important festival.
In a personal conversation with Bolangir representative Nutan Mishra, Dr. Mahaling further elaborated on how the state government is ensuring that this age-old tradition receives the recognition and support it deserves in today's times. He also highlighted the importance of agricultural reforms and the development of rural areas.
