Mumbai, Jul 24: Renowned Bollywood director Rohit Shetty has stated that he is content with his place in mainstream commercial cinema and has no plans to venture into middle-of-the-road or art-driven cinema in the future.
Rohit Shetty, known for his commercial entertainers and who frequently collaborates with Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn, has a series of blockbusters to his name. One of his most successful franchises, ‘Golmaal’, allowed audiences to see Ajay Devgn's comic side for the first time in 2006, a departure from his previously intense roles.
Shetty is also credited with creating the popular cop universe with films like ‘Singham’, ‘Singham Returns’, ‘Simmba’, ‘Sooryavanshi’, and the upcoming ‘Singham Again’. Additionally, he has collaborated twice with Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan on ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Dilwale’, both of which were major commercial successes.
When asked if he would ever consider shifting to a more intense or art-driven style of cinema, Rohit responded, “I’m happy in the kind of space I’m working in. Jis tarah ki films main banata hoon, I really enjoy putting them together. These demarcations of commercial cinema or arthouse cinema are given by the audience and the critics.”
He elaborated further, “It’s not our job as filmmakers to make these demarcations; cinema is cinema. You make the kind of cinema that you identify with. Cinema is more than 100 years old now, and there’s a space for every kind of filmmaker to tell their story. That’s the beauty of cinema.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is set to return as the host for the upcoming season of the stunt-based reality television show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 14’ which will soon premiere on Colors channel.
