Chandigarh, Sep 29: In a disturbing incident, a Class 2 student of a private primary school in Haryana’s Panipat town was allegedly assaulted by the school principal and a driver and was also tied upside down to a window.
Panipat Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satish Vats informed the media that both the school principal and the driver have been arrested on Monday.
According to Vats, the incident occurred on August 13 at Srijan Public School, but the victim’s family only became aware of the crime on September 27, after the bus driver posted a video on social media showing the boy tied upside down to a window.
The child was shown tied upside down to a window, while the bus driver was seen physically assaulting him. In a separate video, the school principal is seen repeatedly slapping two students and pulling a student’s ears in front of their classmates.
The school principal, Reena, and bus driver Ajay have been charged under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, as well as Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
When questioned about taking the law into her own hands, the principal told the police that the students were slapped for misbehaving with two sisters and that she had informed their parents about the incident on the same day.
She also admitted to calling the driver to reprimand the student for not completing homework but said she only became aware of the corporal punishment after the student’s parents visited the school on Saturday and raised the matter.
She stated that upon learning about driver Ajay’s inappropriate behavior—tying the child’s legs with a rope and hanging him from a window while in school uniform—she terminated his employment on August 30. However, some parents alleged that the principal used to impose corporal punishment by making students clean the classroom floors and toilets.
