Bhubaneswar crowns new gymnastics champions during high-intensity national finals.
Harschit Damodaran emerged as the standout performer at the Junior & Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships 2026–27, clinching four gold medals at the Kalinga Stadium. His mastery over the floor, rings, vault, and horizontal bar showcased a rare technical depth in the junior category. Meanwhile, in the senior division, Satyajit Mondal demonstrated veteran precision to secure victories in both Floor Exercise and Vault, cementing his status as one of India's premier gymnasts.
Competition within the junior ranks proved fierce as Harschit Damodaran faced stiff challenges from peers like Nishad Narvane and SK Nabigh Ali. While Damodaran swept multiple categories, Narvane displayed exceptional control to take the gold on the Parallel Bars. Swarnim Jaiswal rounded out the top honors by winning the Pommel Horse event. These results highlight a significant surge in technical difficulty among India's youth gymnasts.
Elite athletes pushed the boundaries of strength and flexibility during the senior apparatus finals. Notable wins included Siddarth Verma on the Pommel Horse and Shayan Sharma on the Horizontal Bar. Local fans found reason to celebrate as Odisha’s own Tapan Mohanty and Sumit Dhali secured 6th and 7th place finishes respectively, proving that the state’s investment in world-class facilities is yielding competitive fruit.
Odisha has transformed into the "Sports Capital of India" by hosting consecutive high-stakes events, and this championship serves as a vital scouting ground for international cycles. Officials from the Gymnastics Federation of India noted that the focus now shifts toward the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) events. Those competitions will commence on April 30, continuing the momentum at the Gymnastics High Performance Centre through May 3.
