Bhubaneswar, June 21: A high-level fact-finding delegation from the Congress, led by former AICC general secretary Deepa Dasmunshi, visited Gopalpur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday, where a 20-year-old college student was allegedly gang-raped by a group of ten individuals.
The all-women team includes MPs Ranjeet Ranjan, Praniti Shinde, and S. Jothimani, along with former Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza. During their visit, the delegation met with the victim’s family, surveyed the location of the incident, and gathered first-hand knowledge to assess the situation.
Expressing deep concern over the brutal crime, the team emphasized the need for swift justice and accountability. They also interacted with local authorities and law enforcement officials as part of their on-the-spot inquiry.
The Congress team plans to submit a detailed report of their findings to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president.
They have also announced their intention to seek meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to press for justice in the case.
