Gopabandhu Health Insurance Scheme to continue separately for journalists in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: The Odisha government has clarified that the Gopabandhu Health Insurance Scheme will not be merged with the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Journalists already covered under the Gopabandhu Health Insurance Scheme will continue to receive its benefits as before.

The clarification has brought relief to the journalist community, following discussions over a possible merger of the two health insurance schemes.

According to the government’s decision, there will be no change in the existing coverage for journalists enrolled under the Gopabandhu scheme. Journalists who are not currently covered but wish to join the scheme will also be able to apply as per the prescribed rules and eligibility criteria.

The Odisha Union of Journalists (OUJ) has welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for continuing the scheme separately.

The organisation said the scheme plays an important role in ensuring healthcare security for journalists across the state.
