New Delhi, May 2: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed noted filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker as the Festival Director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India, scheduled to be held in Goa in November 2026.
Gowariker, known for his significant contributions to Indian cinema, shares a long-standing association with IFFI spanning several decades. His appointment is seen as a move to further strengthen the festival’s global appeal and cinematic excellence.
Expressing his gratitude, Gowariker said it was a matter of “immense pride and joy” to take on the role of Festival Director for the prestigious event. He highlighted his long journey with IFFI, from participating in 1984 to serving as the International Jury Chairperson in 2024, describing it as a memorable experience.
He also acknowledged the legacy of the festival, established in 1952, and said he looks forward to working closely with the Ministry and the Goa government to carry forward its rich tradition.
IFFI, one of Asia’s premier film festivals, is jointly organized by the National Film Development Corporation and the Entertainment Society of Goa. The festival serves as a major platform for cultural exchange, showcasing a diverse range of global cinema.
The upcoming edition will feature international competitions, country-focused showcases, masterclasses, tribute sessions, and the ‘Film Bazaar’, bringing together filmmakers, industry experts, and emerging talents from across the world.
