Bhubaneswar, August 26: The Odisha Government on Wednesday claimed that the overall flood situation in the State is presently stable. However, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts continue to remain under close watch.

The Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SEOC) continues to effectively manage the situation arising out of incessant rainfall and floods across the State. As per the report issued as of 11 AM on August 26, 2026, the overall flood and rainfall situation in the State remains under control.

Between August 13 and August 26, a total of 91 blocks, 604 Gram Panchayats, 1,895 villages and 13,50,306 people across 10 districts have been affected. The situation arising from rising river water levels, waterlogging, breaches and disruption of communication in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj and Kendrapada districts has been closely monitored and effectively managed. The overall situation is presently stable; however, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts continue to remain under close watch.

As per the report received up to 8.30 AM on August 26, 2026, the State recorded an average rainfall of 3.2 mm during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall of 49.0 mm was recorded in Bamra Block of Sambalpur district. Rainfall of more than 10 mm was recorded at 32 blocks and five stations in two urban local bodies across the State. Other areas that received significant rainfall include Kakatpur in Puri district (47.0 mm), Raurkela Municipal Corporation (33.6 mm), Khairput in Malkangiri district (33.0 mm), and the North Zone under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (33.0 mm).

From August 1 to August 26, the cumulative rainfall recorded in the State was 347.7 mm, which is 16.4% above the normal average of 298.6 mm. Similarly, during the current monsoon season, from June 1 to August 26, 2026, the State has received a total rainfall of 1,103.9 mm, which is 30.9% above the normal average of 843.0 mm.

Considering the district-wise rainfall situation during the monsoon season, 21 districts—Baragada, Kendujhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Balasore, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Balangir, Khordha, Nayagada, Sundaragada, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Puri have recorded above-normal rainfall (+19% or more). The remaining nine districts—Jharsuguda, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Gajapati have recorded normal rainfall. So far, no district in the State has experienced deficient or scanty rainfall.

According to the latest report, nine blocks in three districts—five blocks in Kendrapada, two in Bhadrak and two in Jajpur—are affected by floods. A total of 80,284 people in 189 villages under 68 Gram Panchayats have been affected. At present, 87 free kitchens are providing cooked food. A total of 1,02,481.5 hectares of agricultural land has been affected. As per the latest report, a total of 57 teams, comprising 21 ODRAF teams, one NDRF team, 33 Fire and Emergency Services teams, and two Police/Civil Defence/local teams, have been deployed.

Close monitoring is being maintained over the breaches on the left bank of the Baitarani River at Anandapur in Kendujhar district and on the right bank of the Baitarani-Kani river system at Tarapada Gram Panchayat in Jajpur district.

As per the latest available data, five blocks, 30 Gram Panchayats, 55 villages and 4,710 people in Kendrapada district have been affected. In Bhadrak district, two blocks, 18 Gram Panchayats, 70 villages and 25,432 people have been affected. In Jajpur district, two blocks, 20 Gram Panchayats, 64 villages and 50,142 people have been affected.

So far, a total of 41,761 people have been rescued, while 76,051 people have been evacuated by boats. Connectivity has been restored to 775 isolated villages, while 215 people have been evacuated for emergency medical treatment. A total of 210 boats have been deployed for rescue operations.

Today, 25,720 people have been provided with cooked food, taking the cumulative number of people provided with cooked meals to 5,25,396. A total of 1.5 quintals of rice, 6,346.76 quintals of chuda & 632.01 quintals of jaggery have been distributed. Today, 429 polythene sheets/rolls were distributed, taking the cumulative distribution to 10,519 sheets/rolls.

Relief shelters have been equipped with drinking water, sanitation, lighting and medical facilities, along with special arrangements for children, pregnant women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

A total of 8,611 tube wells and 245 PWS projects have been affected, of which 5,816 tube wells and 144 PWS projects have been restored/disinfected. 76 water tankers and 10,28,264 bottles/pouches of drinking water have been supplied, while six mobile water treatment units have been deployed. Flooding has affected 73,495 electricity consumers, and restoration of power supply is underway.

In Jajpur, 18 health centres/areas have been affected. Today, 84 medical teams and 53 medical camps are operational, taking the cumulative number of medical camps to 159. A total of 33,653 people have been treated, while 304 cases of diarrhoea/vomiting and 49 snakebite cases have been reported. 327 pregnant women have been shifted to health facilities, and 99 institutional deliveries have been conducted. Adequate stocks of medicines, ORS, IV fluids and anti-snake venom are available.

A total of 88 roads and bridges have been affected, while dewatering and disinfection of contaminated water caused by waterlogging is underway in 26 locations. No telecom tower has been affected.

Approximately 1,02,481.5 hectares of paddy crop have been affected, along with 5,60,356 livestock and 56,983 poultry birds. Through 98 veterinary teams and 242 camps, a total of 25,230 animals have been treated and vaccinated, while 1,587.56 metric tonnes of cattle feed have been supplied. A total of 41 animal deaths have been reported.
