Gift money & ornaments stolen from two marriage halls in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: Gift money, gold ornaments and mobile phones were stolen from a marriage hall of a star hotel in Bhubaneswar city, police said on Saturday. 

According to the complainant, Dinesh Kumar Mohanty of Mallick Complex in Jagamara area in the city, his niece’s marriage was held in a star hotel in a star hotel in Khandagiri area on February 7.

The unidentified thief attended the marriage ceremony as like an invited guest and decamped with a bag containing money gifted to the bride and a vanity bag with one iPhone, two other mobile phones, two gold chains and three gold rings, said Mohanty.

They checked the CCTV footage of the hotel after not getting the two bags and knew about the theft. Dinesh filed a police complaint in this regard on February 8.

Police have launched a probe into the matter registering a case.

In another incident, a bag carrying gift money of around Rs 5 lakh and a vanity bag containing gold ornaments worth around Rs 3 lakh were stolen from The Regal Palm mandap under Badagada police limits in the city on February 7.
