Berhampur, June 25: In a major crackdown on absconding criminals, Ganjam police have launched a district-wide operation to enforce court directives by issuing public notices known locally as latka outside the residences of offenders who have consistently failed to appear in court despite repeated summons.
According to Superintendent of Police Shubendu Kumar Patra, the special drive began on June 21 and is being carried out under his direct supervision. The initiative targets individuals against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued, but who have evaded the legal process by not responding to court orders.
As part of the operation, notices have so far been posted at the homes of 63 absconders across various police station jurisdictions. The highest number of notices — 13 — were issued by Gangapur Police Station. Other figures include: Bhanjanagar- 5, Jagannathprasad- 2, Belguntha- 2, Tarasingh-5, Buguda- 8, Patapur- 2, Hinjili- 3, Purushottampur-1, Polasara-9, Kodala- 4, Beguniapada- 1, Chhatrapur-4, Chamakhandi-2, Rambha- 1, Khallikote- 1.
SP Patra emphasized that if the absconders continue to ignore court appearances, legal proceedings will be initiated to seize their properties. “These notices serve as the final warning. Property attachment will follow if the accused do not comply,” he stated.
The police have assured that the drive will continue in the coming weeks, aiming to ensure strict enforcement of the law and uphold the authority of the judiciary.
