Bhubaneswar, September 2: Notorious gangster Sakil on Tuesday surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) City Court in Cuttack in connection with a case registered at Mangalabag police station.
The surrender comes at a time when Commissionerate Police have intensified surveillance on professional criminals to ensure law and order ahead of the festive season.
Just two days earlier, Mangalabag police had arrested Sakil’s close aide, Abdul Kadir, for allegedly assaulting a businessman. Kadir was produced in court after his arrest, while Sakil went into hiding. However, he appeared in court today to submit himself before the law.
Police officials said the move is part of a wider crackdown on anti-social elements in Cuttack, where security has been stepped up in view of the upcoming festivities.
