FTII Extends Application Deadline for Renowned Film Appreciation Course

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), an institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has announced an extension for applications to its celebrated Film Appreciation Course (Mid-Year 2025). Aspiring participants now have until 6:00 PM IST on June 15, 2025, to submit their applications for the course, which will be held in Pune from June 23 to July 11, 2025. This decision was made in response to overwhelming interest from film enthusiasts nationwide, aiming to include those who missed the original June 7 deadline.

About the Course

Conducted jointly by FTII and the National Film Development Corporation – National Film Archive of India, this intensive, full-time program is a key component of FTII's outreach initiative to make film education more accessible. The course is designed to provide a structured and deep understanding of cinema's aesthetics, history, and language.

Participants will immerse themselves in a rigorous schedule of lectures, screenings, and discussions, running daily from 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM, with weekends off. A standout feature of the program is the unique opportunity to experience films in both their classic 35mm and modern digital formats, offering a richer appreciation of cinematic evolution. The curriculum is comprehensive, exploring cinema as both an art form and a medium of communication, with a strong emphasis on the rich traditions of Indian and world cinema. Attendees will engage with a curated selection of classic fiction, non-fiction, and documentary films, each followed by in-depth analysis and discussion.

The course will be led by FTII’s distinguished core faculty, including course coordinators Indranil Bhattacharya and Vaibhav Abnave, along with esteemed guest faculty. Interactive sessions with noted filmmakers are also an integral part of the learning experience.

Who Should Apply?

This course is ideally suited for teachers, media professionals, researchers, members of film societies, government officials in media-related roles, and dedicated cinephiles from across India who wish to deepen their understanding of the cinematic arts.

Applications will be reviewed based on the applicant's demonstrated interest and experience in cinema and media-related fields. A limited number of hostel accommodations are available for outstation participants. Priority for these accommodations will be given to differently-abled and female candidates. It is important to note that participants are expected to make their own arrangements for travel, meals, and any stay not covered by the limited hostel facility in Pune. This extension offers a valuable second chance for passionate individuals to be part of a truly enriching cinematic journey.
