Four sanitation workers die while cleaning septic tank in Odisha's Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur Ju8ne 3: In a tragic incident, four sanitation workers lost their lives due to suspected asphyxiation while cleaning a septic tank in Podalaguda village under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district on Tuesday morning.

According to initial reports, the workers had entered the toilet septic tank for cleaning when they were overcome by toxic fumes, causing them to lose consciousness. Locals rushed to the scene and helped rescue the workers, who were immediately shifted to a nearby medical in critical condition.

Doctors at the hospital declared three of the workers brought dead. The fourth was admitted to the intensive care unit but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The incident has sparked outrage and concern across the region, highlighting the persistent risks faced by sanitation workers and the lack of adequate safety measures in hazardous cleaning operations. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the workers were provided with proper protective equipment.
