Bhubaneswar, June 6: Mohammad Rafiq, former MLA and senior BJP leader from the erstwhile Melchamunda constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district, passed away on Friday at the age of 71.
Rafiq had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bargarh for an extended period. He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2004 from the Melchhamunda constituency. Over the years, he held several key positions, including State President of the BJP Minority Front and Vice-President of the Sohela Durgapuja Committee.
Known for his humility and simple lifestyle, Rafiq was widely respected and held in high regard by the people of his constituency.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over Rafiq’s passing, extending his condolences to the bereaved family. BJP Odisha President Manmohan Samal and State General Secretary (Organization) Manas Kumar Mohanty also mourned the loss, describing it as a significant blow to the party. They offered prayers for the departed soul and expressed sympathy for the grieving family.
