Bengaluru, August 2: In a significant verdict, a special court in Bengaluru on Saturday sentenced former Member of Parliament and suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment for the rape of a domestic worker.
The ruling came a day after Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat, presiding over the special court for cases involving MPs and MLAs, convicted the 34-year-old politician. This case marks the first conviction among four rape and sexual assault complaints filed against him.
During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution strongly advocated for the maximum punishment, emphasizing the serious nature of the crime.
The case involves the sexual assault of a 48-year-old woman who worked as domestic help at the Revanna family’s farmhouse in Gannikada, Holenarasipura in Hassan district. The survivor was allegedly raped twice in 2021—once at the farmhouse and again at a residence in Bengaluru. Revanna reportedly recorded the assaults on his mobile phone.
