Bhadrak, Nov 5: What began as silent admiration soon spiraled into obsession and prompted a violent attack when a youth allegedly slit the throat of the father of a minor girl in Basudevpur area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday reportedly over one-sided love.

The accused has been identified as Alok Behera, a resident of Bishnubindha village under Barantua panchayat.

According to sources, the incident took place in Aruha village under Basudevpur police station limits in the district. Alok had been harassing a Class 9 girl over one-sided love.

The accused approached the girl at her tuition class in Tulmatula village and proposed her for a romantic relationship. However, the girl turned down his proposal. Moments later, the girl’s father, Rajendra Rout, arrived at the tuition to pick her up.

Seeing Alok harassing his daughter, he confronted him leading to a heated altercation. Following the quarrel, Alok reportedly fled the spot. However, he later went to Rajendra’s house, and allegedly attacked him with a knife, slitting his throat. The accused then abandoned his motorcycle nearby before fleeing from the scene.

Upon hearing Rajendra’s screams for help, villagers rescued and rushed him to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition where he is currently undergoing treatment.

An investigation has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused, said Basudevpur Police.
