Berhampur, Aug 12: Former Berhampur Mayor, Sibasankar Das, has lodged a formal complaint at the Gosaninuagaon police station after allegedly receiving a death threat from a known contract killer.

The accused, Sibaram Pal, reportedly contacted Das via a WhatsApp call on Monday, during which he allegedly threatened to kill him and "smash" him completely.

In response to the threat, Das immediately sought protection and informed the police. "I first received the call on WhatsApp but didn’t answer. When he called again, I picked up, and that’s when he started abusing me," Das explained. He also noted that Pal hails from the same village and that he had formally reported the matter to the authorities.

Police sources confirmed that Sibaram Pal has a criminal background, with numerous cases against him. He has been involved in serious criminal activities in the past and has served several prison sentences.

Following the complaint, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are also reviewing the call records to validate the claims made by Das.
